THREE representatives of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) left for Kedah, Malaysia last Sunday (January 25) to act as young ambassadors of Brunei at the Asean University Youth Summit (AUY Summit).
Mohd Asdy bin Md Dini and Siti Nurfatin Sumarni binti Hj Sulaiman from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), and Ramizah @ Nadzirah binti Hj Redzuan from the Faculty of Science (FOS) attended the summit to address issues based on the theme “Forging Ahead with 1 – Asean Youth Network Through Volunteerism, Sustainability and The Environment”.
The AUY Summit was held with objectives to provide space for open dialogues among students, mentors, and representatives of the institutions of higher learning from Asean member countries, premised on the theme of volunteerism, environment and sustainability through knowledge sharing.
The trio joined other Asean representatives in Malaysia from January 26-29 and participated in roundtable discussions on creating a “caring and sharing” community among Asean member states, promoting sustainable social development through volunteerism and how volunteerism is the way forward to create a strong and harmonious Asean community.
The participants also had the opportunity to experience an intercultural show through a “sharing is caring” activity held during the summit.
In addition, the young ambassadors of Asean engaged in community building and networking activities to create a harmonious and tight cohort for the AUY Summit in Malaysia.
The AUYS 2015 is the first summit organised by Universiti Utara Malaysia under the Student Development and Alumni College of Arts and Sciences.
