UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is opening its doors to visitors to explore its educational programmes and academic opportunities as it prepares to usher in a new stream of prospective students for the next semester in July 2015 at the UBD Open Day on February 14-15 at the Chancellor’s Hall, UBD.
Members of the public interested in pursuing their education in Bachelors, Masters or PhD levels are invited to attend the UBD Open Day to gain an overview of how their undergraduate/graduate programme expect-ations can be aligned with their personal and career goals.
The UBD Open Day is also an opportunity for prospective students to get clearer understanding of the faculties and curriculum, and student experience in UBD.
In addition, visitors may get a chance to speak with faculty members and current students on their expectations and academic experience in the UBD.
To be held from 8am to 5pm, the event welcomes visitors to meet with programme leaders to explore the varieties of undergraduate and graduate programmes offered by the university.
Prospective students will also learn about Discovery Year programme, which encourages its third year students to spend a year in experiential learning through study abroad and student exchanges, internship programmes, community outreach and incubation programmes.
UBD’s Student Association (PMUBD) will also showcase its new initiatives of student activities under Health and Safety, Spiritual, Career and Leadership Development, Social and Culture, and International Student Ambassadors.
Members of the public who wish to enrol in UBD under government scholarship may also received guidance on the HECAS applications by the Ministry of Education.
This year’s theme based on “Creativity. Innovation. Entrepreneurship”.
It highlights the university’s continuous commitment as a centre of excellence in producing a generation of leaders with creative and entrepreneurial capabilities, who are proactive in innovating new technologies and cultures.
The GenNEXT undergraduate programmes in UBD offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering.
Individuals interested in pursuing graduate studies may opt for Master by Research or Coursework, and PhD studies in various disciplines such as Policy Studies, Public Health, Petroleum Geoscience, Environmental Management and Humanities.
Those interested in graduate studies may also find out more information on financial aid with the Graduate Research Scholarship (GRS) at the Open Day.
Since the university boosted its internationalisation efforts and linked with the world’s most prestigious universities in student exchanges and research collaborations, UBD has seen an increase of international students by 10 per cent as of 2010.
In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings, UBD ranked 11th in inbound exchange students, 4th in outbound exchange students and 7th in international faculty.
