UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) joined various other agencies in welcoming the Hari Raya Aidiladha with an ‘Ibadah Korban and Aqiqah’ ceremony at the University’s Mosque in the UBD campus yesterday afternoon.
This year, one buffalo, six cows and six goats were sacrificed in light of the Islamic holiday by 34 Korban participants and 17 Aqiqah individuals comprising those from UBD as well as the local community.
The ceremony was jointly conducted by UBD’s Religious Council Committee, Universiti Mosque Takmir Committee and the Religious and Spirituality Unit of the UBD’s Student Affairs Section.
Present as guest of honour to witness the ceremony was Dato Paduka Dr Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education cum UBD Vice Chancellor.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the Hari Raya Aidiladha Takbir.
The guest of honour then delivered a speech before proceeding to distribute the sacrificial meat to the recipients.
UBD began hosting the Korban and Aqiqah ceremony since 1994, as part of its efforts to foster ties among the Islamic community within the UBD campus as well as the general public.
