TWO students yesterday left for Osaka, Japan to represent Brunei Darussalam in the ‘Asian High School Students Forum’ hosted by Hidaka High School from October 13 to 18, in conjunction with its 100th anniversary celebration.
Dayangku Nadia Safira binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman and Hanisah binti Mohd Zakaria, Year 10 students from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Secondary School, are accompanied by their teacher, Irene Chong, in her capacity as their chaperone.
The forum focuses on the development of students who will become global players in their respective communities, and is attended by representatives from 16 countries throughout Southeast Asia and East Asia.
The participants will be presenting on three major themes set by the host, namely on environment, tourism and culture. The team from Brunei will be touching on Asian Culture and showcasing a vital part of the country’s rich heritage as demonstrated in ‘The Colourful Bruneian Malay Wedding’.
For preparation, the students did a mini research on the topic and found out that individuals of marriageable age and married couples still hold traditions in high esteem as far as wedding is concerned.
The students will follow the home-stay programme laid out for them and visit various places of interest there.
Bidding them farewell at the Brunei International Airport was Siew Kuan Keasberry, the Acting Principal of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School.
