KOTA BAHARU (Bernama) – The search and rescue (SAR) team has yet to find two more victims of a boat capsize in Sungai Golok yesterday, said Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station head, Rahmat Kamaruzaman.
He said the two siblings, Wan Nurdina Nadia Wan Azli, 10, and Wan Nurhabib Naufal, six, had yet to be found after the SAR team, comprising 100 personnel from department, conducted its operation for over three kms until this evening.
“However, the operation will stop at 7pm yesterday and continue tomorrow morning,” he said when contacted by Bernama here, today.
Yesterday, the search team found the body of the children’s mother Rosmiwati Zakaria, 37, at 5.45pm about 100 metres from the scene of the incident.
In the 3.30pm incident yesterday, the family was said to be returning from a shopping trip at Pasar Mundok, Sungai Golok located just across the river in conjunction with Aidiladha celebration.
In the incident, the boat with 15 people onboard overturned in swift current following a heavy rain.
Many of the victims were saved by members of the public while some managed to swim to the river bank but the family of three was swept away by current.
Rosmiwati, who was a welfare officer in Jerantut, Pahang had returned with her family to celebrate Aidiladha at Kampung Pintu Geng here.
Wan Nurdiana Nadia was a standard four pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan Jerantut.
