Two foreign nationals jailed for overstaying

THE Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced two foreign individuals to prison, with whipping for the man, for overstaying.

Filipina Jocelyn Nepomuceno Nicanor, 51, was handed eight months’ jail for overstaying in the country after the expiry of her immigration pass on October 19, 2011 and special pass on August 9, 2012.

She was arrested at her rented quarters in Kampong Serasa by a team of immigration enforcement officers at 11.18pm on November 1, 2017.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Bangladeshi man Mohammad Rubel Miah got three months’ imprisonment with three whippings after he pleaded guilty to overstaying after the expiry of his employment pass on February 27, 2017.

He was arrested at the immigration enforcement section while the defendant was accompanying his friend on November 1, 2017.

The defendant, who failed to produce any valid documents when an officer demanded to see his passport, was found to be a runaway worker.

The cases were presided over by Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid.
