TWO individuals were handed fines by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday after they pleaded guilty to violating the Customs and Excise Order.
Local woman Siti Norfazilah binti Abdullah, 44, was ordered to pay a fine of B$1,200 after she pleaded guilty to being in possession of three cartons and three packets of smuggled cigarettes in her car up on her arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post when Customs preventive officers conducted a routine inspection at 1.05pm on September 8,
2014. Siti Norfazilah would have to serve two months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
Meanwhile, local man Harridz bin Haji Abdul Hamid was handed a B$600 fine for carrying a carton and five packets of smuggled cigarettes as well as six cans of beer in his car on his arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 3pm on July 19, 2013.
Harridz would have to serve a month in jail in default of payment.
Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah binti Haji Mohd Hussain presided over the cases.
