NEW charges have been preferred against a local man who allegedly robbed and raped an expat teacher at the Chung Hwa Primary School Teachers’ Hostel in Tutong.
Yurawandy bin Bujang’s case was remitted yesterday to the High Court by Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil Daraina PD Ustaz Hj Badaruddin.
No dates have been allocated yet.
DPP Rozaimah Rahman yesterday produced the new charges against Yurawandy, firstly of theft of cash and gadgets belonging to the 21-year-old Taiwanese teacher and of causing fear of instant death or hurt or wrongful restraint to the said victim sometime between mid-night and the early hours of September 27 at the hostel.
The second count further alleges the defendant of theft of cash and gadgets from another Taiwanese teacher on the same occasion.
The third charge alleges the defendant of raping the 21-year-old teacher and of putting her in fear of death or hurt.
The fourth charge alleges that the defendant stole a car in the wee hours of September 26 at a field adjacent to the Jeti Emas Laut in Kuala Belait.
Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil ordered for the defendant to be remanded at Jerudong Prison pending the High Court mention.
The theft charges each carry a penalty of jail for a maximum of 30 years with whipping of a minimum of 12 strokes.
The rape charge carries a jail term of a minimum of eight years and maximum of 30 years with whipping of a minimum of 12 strokes.
The charge of auto theft carries a jail term of maximum three years or with a fine or both.
