AN AL-QURAN reading competition (Adult Division) for mosques, surau and prayer halls for 1436H/2015 was yesterday held at the Kampong Keriam Mosque in Tutong, seeing Tutong District Officer Wardi bin Hj Mohammad Ali as the guest of honour.
Six male participants (Qari) and one female participant (Qariah) took part in the competition, and those who scored 75 per cent and above were selected to represent the district at the national level.
The event commenced with a recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah led by Kampong Keriam Mosque Bilal Khalideen bin Mohd Jamil, and was followed by welcoming remarks delivered by Hj Sunaidi bin Hj Kassim, the chairperson of the ceremony.
In his speech, Khalideen noted that the competition was held in search of potential Qari and Qariah among government officials and youths.
Six out of seven participants scored over 75 per cent and have been selected to move on to the national level.
The competition was organised by the Department of Mosque Affairs.
