PARTICIPATION for the upcoming ‘Regatta Perayaan 68’ in Tutong District to be held on October 19, 2014 is now open.
Although smaller in scale compared to Brunei Regatta, the ‘Regatta Perayaan 68’ will feature many side events for family members as it is intended more as a community event, Tutong District Officer, Awg Wardi bin Hj Mohd Ali, as the co-chairman of the event told the media yesterday. The regatta is being held in conjunction with the 68th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Amongst the many interesting side events are a Regatta Parade including ‘Kereta Berhias’ (decorated vehicles) parade, photographic competition and exhibition, arts competition, bazaar, exhibition from government agencies, Lego exhibition, Microsoft Xbox & Sony PlayStation competitions, stage performances and cultural showcase, and for young children there will be face painting and other events as well.
Awg Wardi said the idea is to bring the community together and he believed a festivity such as this will not only help attract visitors to Tutong and make it as one of the destinations, but will also strengthen the family institution and community spirit, in line with the aspiration of His Majesty to strengthen the family institution and social solidarity.
The Tutong District Officer said the festival will start with a soft launching on October 17 and the bazaar and other events will commence. The winner of the photographic competition will also be announced during the soft launching.
On Oct 19, the regatta will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions, and will have a break during the Zohor and Asar prayers to allow Muslims to pray. Awg Wardi said a prayer area will be set up.
The ‘Regatta Perayaan 68’ will be contested under seven categories of paddling race (depending on participation) including 15 paddlers 500m Open for Government and Private Sectors in Tutong District ; 15 paddlers 500m Open for Mukim and Village Consultative Councils in Tutong District; 15 paddlers 500m Open for Combined Government Departments, Youth Associations and Organisations, Private Sector and Uniformed personnel.
There will also be 20 paddlers 500m open for Government, Departments and Private Sectors; 20 paddlers 500m open for Mukim and Village Consultative Councils in Tutong District; 20 paddlers 500m Open for Combined Government Departments, Youth Associations and Organisations, Private Sectors and Uniformed personnel. There will also be a 20 paddlers 500m category Open for racing teams from all districts, and 20 paddlers category for Mukim and Village Consultative Councils from all four districts.
Also depending on participation, there will also be a F2 Speed Boat race and 605cc Jet Ski race. A side event called ‘Regatta Parade’ is an interesting feature to be held in the afternoon. The parade will include an ethnic group that features its unique wedding tradition.
A bazaar is another feature for the family throughout the festival.
Family members who do not want to set their eyes all day at the river, various family games will be held including a colouring contest, puzzle competition and car completing competition.
Musical and cultural stage performances are also planned to entertain the crowd, ranging from youth bands to cultural troupes and traditional performances. The festival will be used as a platform by government agencies and private sector to bring about public awareness.
