THE Tutong District Office has set up the ‘Tutong District Volunteers’, a formal organisation that is aimed at contributing towards the community and to promote the spirit of volunteerism.
The group held its inaugural registration yesterday at the official residence of the Tutong District Officer, Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali. Also present during the registration was the Assistant Tutong District Officer, Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, and senior officials from the Tutong District Office.
The volunteer group hopes to garner participation from people of various skills and disciplines. It also hopes to promote volunteer work such as helping the community learn various skills and assisting them run their business undertakings.
One of the pioneers of the group, Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umarali, a businessman and the secretary of the Kg Kiudang Consultative Council, said that the idea of setting up the group is to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism in the community for its own benefit and welfare, especially nowadays when people are too busy to get to know their community and to lend a helping hand.
One of the advantages of being a part of the group is that members will also be able to benefit from one another by sharing experiences of their respective skills or disciplines.
Muhammad Amir also urged more youth to join the group as it could help them develop their interpersonal skills and contribute towards enhancing their own moral and social values.
“The youth are the future inheritors, and joining this volunteering group will help them have a stronger sense of belonging and sensitivity towards the community,” he added.
Mohd ‘Aziim bin Muhd Amir, a student currently studying in Malaysia, said he has registered with the group so he could utilise his skills to make a contribution towards the community, and he could also meet others with different skills and talents.
Meanwhile, Asril Amin, a graduate from College of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University (KUPU SB), said he previously had a good experience in volunteering activities and thus would like to further his contributions.
