THE role of volunteers in contributing towards the community has become a significant component in the development of a society. In realising this important role of a volunteer group, the Tutong District Office is establishing the Tutong District Volunteers Programme.
The idea of the establishment of the Tutong volunteers developed from the experiences during the flooding event in 2014, where their role became apparent.
The role and the establishment of a volunteer group for the Tutong District was mentioned by the Tutong District Officer, Wardi bin Hj Mohammad Ali, during a dialogue session with community leaders and members of consultative councils in Mukim Kiudang.
Also present during the dialogue session were Assistant District Officer, Hj Adnan bin Hj Adam; the Acting Penghulu of Mukim Kiudang, Hj Mohd Taib bin Hj Jaludin; as well as the heads of government departments in Tutong District.
The Tutong District Officer invited volunteer organisations outside Tutong to join as strategic partners of the Tutong District Volunteers.
He said creating strategic partnerships across volunteer organisations will strengthen their capacity. He also called for the community members in Mukim Kiudang to support this initiative and become a member of the Tutong District Volunteers.
As an opening prologue to the establishment of the Tutong District Volunteers Programme, the Tutong District Officer said a camping programme for the members will be held on February 2 to 5.
The camp will provide an opportunity for members of the volunteer group to show their personal capabilities, skills and expertise in their respective fields.
The camp is expected to provide a continuous life learning journey for members through charity work projects and community work.
The Tutong District Volunteers Programme is open to anyone living in the Tutong District including job seekers, youths, community leaders and professionals, who have good mental and physical health.
