KIUDANG Mungkom New Converts Welfare Body (BASKIM) held a Korban ceremony yesterday at the residence of BASKIM chairman in Kiudang, Tutong.
The sacrificial meat was distributed to orphans and converts.
It was the eighth consecutive year that BASKIM marked Aidiladha with sacrificial rites since its founding back in 2005. BASKIM Chairman, Hj Abdul Rahim bin Abdullah Yakin said the converts took turns to host the event and this was his turn this year.
He believes that Korban is a way to propagate and increase the understanding of Islam in the community. He congratulated the converts who contributed towards the Feast of Sacrifice and hoped the ceremony would be accepted and blessed by Allah the Almighty.
With the establishment of Syariah Penal Code Order and Compulsory Religious Education Order, it is paramount for the converts to enrich themselves with Islamic knowledge so that they will be able to follow the path of Islam with ease and support the government and the aspiration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
He said, in Brunei, Muslim converts are provided with ample avenues to enrich themselves with religious knowledge.
It is the mission of BASKIM to assist the converts to study Islam, which aligns with the mission of the Tutong District New Muslim Converts Association, the parent association for BASKIM.
BASKIM also helps non-Muslims understand Islam.
The guest of honour at the event was YB Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Awang Hj Muhammad Taha bin Abdul Rauf, member of the Legislative Council. Among the highlights of the event was a religious talk by Ustaz Hj Badaruddin bin Hj Besar from Islamic Dakwah Centre.
