THOUSANDS of people from all walks of life took part in a Maulud Nabi procession held yesterday morning in the Tutong District.
Around 5,000 registered participants were divided into 39 banners (groups) comprising community leaders, uniformed personnel, government officers and staff, teachers, schoolchildren, members of associations and community members.
The procession is one of the most important events in the religious calendar for Muslims in commemorating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
The procession was held for male participants while a separate event was held for women at the Tutong Civic Centre Complex.
The procession, which started and ended at the Muda Hashim Primary School, commenced with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Hj Mahri bin Hj Metussin, the Mosque Officer of the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque in Kg Kiudang.
The guest of honour was Hj Nazmi bin Hj Mohamad, Permanent Secretary (Management and International) at the Ministry of Finance. Also present were Wardi bin Hj Mohammad Ali, the Tutong District Officer, and YB Hj Ramli bin Hj Lahit, a Legislative Council member.
