IT WAS an extra-special occasion for the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Brunei Darussalam yesterday evening at a dinner reception held to commemorate the 91st Anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey at the Rizqun International Hotel.
Hosted by Oguz Ates, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Brunei Darussalam, the event commenced upon the arrival of the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office, who was accompanied by his wife.
Both the Brunei and Turkish national anthems were played before a short film of the Turkish heritage was screened followed by a welcoming address by Oguz Ates.
In his speech, he relayed that the 91st anniversary also coincides with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Brunei Darussalam.
“This year also witnessed the opening of Turkish-Bruneian Embassies in the respective capitals – a decision made in 2012 during His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s visit,” he added.
The evening ensued with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by a presentation of a memento to the minister.
Guests comprising various government and non-government officials as well as diplomatic envoys later enjoyed their evening with a Turkish dinner.
