TRANSLATED copies of the Friday sermon in English will be made available to congregants at several mosques (photo below) in the country after Friday prayers.
According to a press release from the Mosque Affairs Department, the translated text will give non-Malay speaking worshippers a better understanding of the weekly sermon. It will also serve as a source of reference for the general public.
The translated copies of the Friday sermon can be obtained at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital, Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Mohammed Bolkiah Mosque in Kg Serusop, Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Kg Jerudong, Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Kg Sengkurong, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Mosque, Setia Ali Mosque in Muara Town, Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque in Kg Kiudang Tutong, Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Belait, Pekan Seria Mosque in Belait, RPN Kg Pandan Mosque in Belait and Utama Mohd Salleh Mosque in Bangar Town, Temburong.
It is hoped that the translated text would be extended to include other mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide from time to time.
A suggestion to make English translations of the Friday sermon available to the public was put forward at the last Legislative Council session earlier this year. Observers pointed out that translated copies of the Friday sermon have been made available to the public for the past two weeks.
