BRUNEI Music Society has lined-up a cello and piano recital at the Vanda Restaurant of the Orchid Garden Hotel on November 29, starting 7.30pm.
Cellist Miranda SooLan Harding has wide experience as a soloist and chamber musician. Born in England to British and Malaysian parents, her early years were spent in Singapore and Australia. At age 10, she was awarded a place at the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School of Music in England and later continued her studies in Germany.
Miranda has performed extensively as a chamber musician and recitalist throughout Europe as well as in the United States, South America and Asia. In 1991, she was a string finalist in the nationally televised BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, and won first prize at the International Constantin Silvestri Concerto Competition in Romania. Since 2001, she has performed regularly in a duo with pianist Chong Lim Ng.
After winning 1st prize at the Malaysian National Piano Competition in 1993, Chong Lim received a full scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London. While there, he won numerous prizes and scholarships. He later continued his piano studies in Austria.
The pianist and composer steadily built up a reputation as one of the most highly-gifted artists to emerge from his native Malaysia. Very active as a performer, he has appeared both as a soloist and chamber musician in England, Austria, Germany, Spain, the Ukraine, Holland, USA, Japan, Cambodia, and Taiwan as well as his most recent engagements at the HSBC Classic International Piano Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia International Piano Festival with the National Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven Complete Piano Sonatas Project in Singapore and ‘Opusfest’ International Piano Festival, Philippines.
A much sought-after teacher, Chong Lim was a faculty member of Universiti Malaya (Malaysia) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore).
