A THANKSGIVING ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Putra Seni Group was held recently at the Dewan Silaturrahim, Pusat Belia.
Some 40 members of the group attended the religious event.
In his welcoming address, Awg Mohd Zefri Arif bin Mohd Zain Arif, Head of the Putra Seni Group, said the group was officially registered and established on December 5, 1984, when Brunei Darussalam achieved its independence.
It was founded by five students from Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College in 1983.
The group had begun to gain some recognition in September 1983 when it participated in a stage drama competition to mark the country’s independence.
The group showed its talents in dramatic acting, poetry, traditional dances and music. Slowly, it gathered more members as the years went on and it began to grow in popularity.
As the group grew larger, it started actively participating in activities that involved government and non-government agencies including Language and Literature Bureau, Cultural Section of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Department of Youth and Sports, Information Department, Radio Televisyen Brunei, Islamic Dakwah Centre, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Bank Islam Brunei Darusalam.
The last five years have seen the group create a more dynamic structure in their strategy with several of their members going on local and overseas stints to attend discussions, meetings and workshops.
Since 30 years of its establishment, the group has received prestigious recognition such as the Youth Association Award 2014 and Ten Accomplished Youth Organisations of Asean (TAYO Asean) 2014.
These achievements have made the group more determined to enhance skills and talents individually and collectively in a more professional manner.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony.
