Bangkok (dpa) – Thailand’s most prominent forensic investigator has criticised the police investigation into the murder of two British tourists, reports said Thursday.
“The police do not understand that such investigations require a forensic pathologist,” said Porntip Rojanasunan, director general of the Central Institute of Forensic Science.
Failing to promptly cordon off the crime scene also prevented the collection of complete and reliable forensic evidence, she told Manager newspaper.
Porntip’s criticisms came after two arrested Myanmar migrant workers who confessed to the murders said Wednesday they had been physically abused and threatened by police.
Amnesty International has called for an investigation into the reported torture.
On Tuesday police called a press conference to defend their handling of the investigation after widespread criticism and alleged missteps.
