BANGKOK (dpa) – Thailand’s prime minister warned the kingdom’s women to beware of “flirtatious and scary” men who might try to take advantage of them on Valentine’s Day, reports said Saturday.
The warning by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on the eve of what has become one of Thailand’s most popular holidays came as police planned to raid motels and pubs where underage couples might gather.
“I have daughters and I am worried about them,” the Bangkok Post quoted Prayut as saying. “Men are flirtatious and scary, and girls must be careful.”
Prayut, who seized power in a military coup in May and became prime minister in August, has spearheaded a morality campaign aimed at returning happiness and “Thainess” to the country.
“I asked my daughters why they have not had boyfriends, and they said men today are not gentlemen,” Prayut said.a
