MORE than a dozen tenants from the Tasek Lama Apartment Block A and B last night come together to look for a suspected thief who was believed to be on the loose and hiding at the apartment block.
The Tasek Lama apartment blocks have been allegedly plagued by thieves in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, a thief was caught by tenants and handed over to the police while another was also nabbed yesterday morning.
Yesterday evening, tenants discovered another thief was allegedly still at large in the building. This has prompted some of the male tenants to form a neighbourhood watch – patrolling the floors and vicinity of the apartment – to safeguard their families from danger.
According to one of the tenants, “The thieves were believed to be staying on the roof top of the building. We found a mattress, food items and a bag containing belongings. We believe they are here to steal compressors from the air conditioners.”
Recalling the incident in the morning, he said, “We managed to capture one thief this morning after he fell from the ceiling in one of the apartments while trying to crawl his way to another floor.”
“In the evening another tenant heard sounds coming from the ceiling and we knew that there was another thief on the loose.”
The tenant alleged that they had tried to call the relevant agency for help but they “would not come until we found the suspect”.
“My family is very worried and if the thief came into our apartment, we won’t know what he will do,” he said.
Currently, the tenants of the apartment are government servants. They also voiced their grievances on the building’s condition saying, “The building lacks maintenance and a security guard. Thieves can easily come into the building and even stay on top of the building. We would like to urge the relevant authorities to really look at the building’s maintenance and the need for security for the safety of our families.”
