TELEKOM Brunei Berhad (TelBru) has announced that it will join a number of countries around the world in adopting a Fair Usage Policy for its broadband service.
The policy, aligned with the industry practice of telecommunication providers in other parts of the world, is aimed at ensuring that all customers get a better quality of service and a more consistent Internet experience by reducing the excessive amount of bandwidth consumed by a minority of heavy users.
Once implemented, it will offer customers faster bandwidths. For customers to enjoy better Internet experience, TelBru encourages them to change their plan based on their observed monthly data usage.
The amount of data customers needs depends on what they do online. While some tasks like browsing web pages require less data, streaming high quality videos, music and movies contribute to the excessive use of bandwidth capacity and would require more data.
To create awareness among customers before the policy is officially launched, TelBru has introduced a new data checking feature to help customers monitor their data usage.
They can check it via eBill Online, and eBill mobile App which is currently available only for Android users. By signing up or logging onto their accounts on eBill, customers can view their real-time data usage for the month.
They can also check their total monthly usage on their monthly paper bill statement.
TelBru has said it would ensure all customers will get the chance to understand their monthly data usage patterns before implementing the policy, which will be announced at a later date.
