AS PART of TelBru’s Corporate Social Responsibility in giving back to the society, working together with Brunei Council on Social Welfare, TelBru has initiated to contribute financial aid to their annual Back to School Project.
Brunei Council on Social Welfare, also known as ‘Majlis Kesejahteraan Masyarakat’ (MKM) was established to help complement and supplement efforts on social welfare programmes, initiatives and activities made by His Majesty’s Government of Brunei Darussalam. It was registered under the Registrar of Societies on December 2, 2009.
The Back to School Project is an annual project conducted by MKM, reaching underprivileged children by providing them school necessities in preparation for the school re-opening next year.
This year, 28 local children were selected by MKM to be sponsored by TelBru, ranging from primary level to secondary level school students.
Following the contribution from TelBru, this morning witnessed the mock cheque presentation worth $5,000 to MKM, held at TelBru Headquarters Office at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Presenting the mock cheque on behalf of TelBru was Hajah Nor Azura binti Haji Mohd Tahir, Senior Manager of TelBru Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Secretarial Affairs to the MKM Goodwill Ambassador, Datin Hajah Norlina binti Dato’ Haji Abu Bakar and witnessed by other members of MKM and TelBru staff.
In addition to the sponsorship, a group of volunteers from TelBru will be joining the MKM committee on a shopping spree with the underprivileged children to buy their school items this afternoon.
“Going back to school is an important time for any child, so it is a privilege and a great opportunity for us at TelBru to bring these children to shop together to choose their own school necessities, we hope that this has brought some cheer to the children and that they have enjoyed this special treat especially during this school holiday,” said Hajah Nor Azura.
She also added that TelBru will continuously provide their support to such activities especially when it involves the development of education in our country.
The council’s primary objectives are also to address social issues in the country and help coordinate the efforts of the various NGOs committed towards improving the welfare of vulnerable groups in Brunei Darussalam.
