TELBRU under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme donated a sum of $5,000 to The Brunei Council on Social Welfare (Majlis Kesejahteraan Masyarakat – MKM)’s Back to School 2015 Project which will then be relayed to 26 students from underprivileged families.
Receiving the mock cheque of $5,000 from TelBru were MKM’s Goodwill Ambassador, Datin Hajah Norlina binti Dato Haji Abu Bakar and MKM’s President, Datin Paduka Hajah Intan binti Haji Md Kassim.
The MKM’s Back To School 2015 Organising Committe Members led by its Head of Children Committee, Zubaidah binti Dato Paduka Abu Zar with TelBru’s officials and staff brought all 26 students accompanied by their parents/guardians to shopping complexes in Kampong Serusop to buy all their school’s needs.
The annual project which is in its third year running gave the students opportunity to choose themselves their school uniform, shoes (including sports shoes), socks, bags, books including activity books, and stationery.
The money donated is also used to pay for the students’ school fees.
Two weeks ago, a total of 92 primary and secondary students from underprivileged families had received the same donation under the same project at $300 each.
The project, which is always in collaboration with a variety of agencies especially private sectors, is aimed at taking care of students from underprivileged families so that they too will be able to study in a conducive and effective way.
The main objective of MKM’s existence since December 2, 2009 is to handle social issues in Brunei Darussalam, particularly focusing on five categories in the community – children, special needs, elders, underprivileged and troubled families.
