TEDXGADONG has announced that it will organise a TEDxYouth@Gadong event on February 15 at the iCentre, Anggerek Desa. With the theme “Youth Empowerment”, the activity will specifically highlight on the youth of Brunei and their ideas.
The event will feature eight student speakers between ages 15-18 years old and from different high schools across the country such as Jerudong International School, Chung Hwa, and Meragang Sixth Form Centre (PTEM). At the event, they will be sharing their thoughts on Entrepreneurship, Environment, Technology, Youth leadership, and Innovation. Two official TED videos will be shown throughout the event’s intermissions as well.
When asked about the motivation to set up the venture, Chairman Abdul Malik Omar said, “It is my desire to see more contribution made by our youths to the nation. And I see no better way to achieve that goal that by providing these students the chance to speak and represent the country at a TEDx event.”
TEDxGadong is a venture founded in 2014 and is the first Brunei-based, community-focused, independently organised TED-like conference.
The latest event was held last August 2014, which saw a full-turn out and featured local youth to take centre stage to become Brunei’s TEDx speakers.
Youths who spoke include Haji Luqman of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Shavez Cheema of BruWildlife, and Hanna Hassanal of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Social Media personality Delwin Keasberry and Toastmaster’s Stuart Lee also became speakers of the event.
