THE members of Team Brunei Darussalam, representing the Sultanate in the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2015, in Long Beach California, USA, from July 10-19, was revealed yesterday in a ceremony aimed at garnering support for local talents who will embark on a journey to try and realise their dreams of stardom.
This year there are six individual performers, one dance team and a duo representing the country. (Soundbites on Page 6)
A passionate stand-up comedian, Zainal Bostaman, will compete in the Senior Acting Category, while Nadia Halim, also known as ‘Yaya’, and Yazakka Yamin will perform their songs in the Senior Vocal Category.
A dance team from Relentless comprising Amy Cheong, Ainul Marzuki, Sarah Jane Ward and Shannon Osman, will compete in the Senior Dance Group Category, while ‘The Ellewan’, the duo consisting of Erwan Mugit and Michelle Tan are to sing in the Senior Vocal with Instrument (Duo/Group) Category.
Mardi Hedus will showcase his dance moves in the Senior Dance Solo Category; Kala Karwanamurthi will play her guitar in the Senior Vocal With Instrument Category and Hill Zaini will compete in the Senior Vocal Category.
On hand to introduce the participants was National Director of WCOPA Brunei Darussalam, Jeffrey E Cadayong.
Assisting the national director during the ceremony were last year’s WCOPA participants, Maria Grace Koh, also known as EIA, and Joanna Kwan. Maria Grace Koh was recently selected as the official hostess for the WCOPA 2015.
Jeffrey E Cadayong in his opening remark said, “This year’s delegation were chosen after an exclusive audition in October 2014 and after careful deliberation from WCOPA Brunei Darussalam to determine who will best represent the country in the prestigious competition.
“Finally, we are so proud to present to you the delegates who will undergo intensive training, personality and image development, to prepare them for the competition where they will compete with world class talents from more than 50 countries.”
