KABUL (dpa) – Taleban militants Friday claimed responsibility for an attack that killed three US contractors.
An Afghan soldier opened fire on the US contractors late Thursday at the military airport in the eastern part of Kabul city, killing three contractors and injuring one, said a security official who asked not to be named.
“The people killed were contractors training and advising Afghan troops,” the security official said. “The attacker was also shot dead.” The international forces in Afghanistan confirmed that a shooting had taken place but gave no details.
“The hero mujahid infiltrator Ehsanullah, son of Rahmatullah from Laghman province, working inside Kabul military airport opened fire on the invaders,” said Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the insurgents.
“The attack killed three American invaders and wounded four others before the infiltrator was martyred by return fire,” said Mjuahid, who had earlier said seven were killed.
About 13,000 foreign troops remain in the country to train and advise Afghan forces in the framework of the new Resolute Support mission, after their combat mission ended last year.
