THE Ministry of Health has reminded the public to take precautionary measures amid heavy downpours and floods in some areas. This is to prevent and avoid any casualties or injuries that may arise. Floods can also cause food and water-borne diseases like diarrhea, food poisoning and vector borne diseases such as dengue.
Among the precautionary measures are to ensure the water supply is clean and not contaminated, to drink boiled water or bottled water, cook food properly, prioritise self-cleanliness and to wash hands with clean water and soap after visiting the toilet, to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and not to dispose rubbish indiscriminately. Drains should not be clogged with rubbish, mud and branches.
The public should also seek treatment if they experience fever, stomach ache, diarrhea or vomiting. For patients suffering from chronic diseases, they should have adequate medicine supply.
