PERBADANAN Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) recently handed over $3,584,197.14 million in zakat (tithe) collection to the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The amount collected is from 3,840 savings accounts during the period of January to December 2014.
The mock cheque was presented by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of TAIB Board of Directors Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof to Minister of Religious Affairs cum MUIB President Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman.
The handover was made in the presence Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs cum MUIB Deputy President Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Acting Chief Syar’ie Judge cum Chairman of TAIB’s Syariah Advisory Committee Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar and Perbadanan TAIB Acting Managing Director Haji Rosdi Amin bin Dato Paduka Haji Yaakub.
The zakat payment on savings is a service provided uniquely by TAIB that savings account holders can opt for. The main objective is to promote and facilitate the process for Muslims to perform their zakat obligations in a more convenient manner.
