BRUNEI’S Syariah Courts yesterday received a courtesy call from a delegation of the Singapore Syariah Court which was led by its Senior President, Hj Mohammad bin Hj Rais.
The delegates were warmly greeted by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Awg Salim bin Hj Besar, the Acting Chief Syar’ie Judge of Brunei Darussalam, accompanied by senior officials.
The visitors were then brought to the Syariah Courts’ Gallery Exhibition and heard briefings, among others, on the history and background of Islamic law and jus-tice in Brunei, religious laws and the Kadhi court in 1955 as well as various equipments that are used, including the chair that has used by the Chief Kadhi of the Syariah Court since 1964.
The briefings also covered the organisational structure of Brunei’s Syariah Courts and their role in im-plementing the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013.
The visit was also aimed at pro-viding the delegates with ample and clear information on wedding and divorce processes as well as the Faraid system for Muslims in the country.
