RAJA Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMPRIPAD) recently took its Years 9, 10 and 11 students on a field trip to two government departments.
The group’s first stop was the State Mufti’s Office along Jalan Babu Raja.
Welcoming the visitors were the officers at Darul Ifta Brunei Darussalam, who then led them on a tour of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery.
The gallery is divided into four different exhibition categories namely Mushaf, Periodical, Walking Stick and Tasbih (prayer beads), and manuscript galleries.
At the Walking Stick and Tasbih (prayer beads) gallery, the visitors viewed more than 200 types of walking sticks and 60 types of prayer beads, which were the monarch’s personal collection.
At the manuscript gallery, they got a closer look at 700 types of Islamic manuscript, which ranged from language to biography.
The next stop was the Maraburong Prison in Tutong District.
There, the Prisons Department officer briefed them about crime and punishment in Brunei, accompanied by video clips.
After the talk, the group toured the premises, making stops at the cells, segregation unit, visitors room, prison kitchen, library and workshop.
According to Cikgu Haji Shahnon bin Haji Ahmad, the group leader, the objective of the visit was to give educational exposure to the students who are members of the school’s co-curricular unit.
“The students have just finished their end-of-year examination and they are very excited about this trip. This excursion really helped them gain a clear understanding about the workings in public departments while also giving them the opportunity to gain knowledge that cannot be learned within the four walls of a classroom,” he added.
