SPORTSMANSHIP skills were displayed recently as Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMPRIPAD) students competed for their respective houses’ pride during the school’s annual Sports Day.
The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a march-past. Members of the four houses waved their flags and cheered loudly to the delight of the audience, which included parents and teachers of the school.
In her speech, the Deputy Principal, Ustazah Hjh Rosnah binti Hj Metaha, reminded teachers and students to exercise regularly as a sedentary lifestyle is a cause of weight gain and obesity.
Apart from being a competitive sporting event, the sports meet was also organised to groom a more active and healthier younger generation, both physically and mentally, she added.
Held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, 120 participants comprising Year 8 to Year 11 students, demonstrated their physical strength and endurance in numerous track and field events.
The track and field events ranged from the 100-metre dash to team events such as the 4×100 metre relay.
