MAKTAB Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah held ‘Songkok Day’ on October 30, as one of the initiatives of the college’s Peer-guide programme, better known as, ‘Pembimbing Rakan Remaja (PRR).’
In an interview, the Vice-president of the Peer-guide programme, Dayangku Amal Hidayatul Najibah binti Pg Dahari, said that ‘Songkok Day’ is one of the ways through which male Muslim students of the college can commemorate and glorify the Islamic New Year 1436.
The donning of this traditional Malay headgear is already a common practice in the college and male Muslim students are advised to wear songkok as part of the college uniform.
‘Songkok Day’ serves to motivate the male Muslim students to further the use of songkok as part of the college’s culture.
Due to the positive response the programme evoked from the male Muslim students, Dk Amal Hidayatul Najibah said that the Pembimbing Rakan Remaja committee is optimistic that ‘Songkok Day’ could be held every Thursday as one of the college’s regular practices.
