THE Brunei History Centre in cooperation with Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College organised a dialogue yesterday on topics in the Sultanate’s history such as local politics, leadership and nationalism.
The dialogue session involved Sixth Form students who made up the members of the panel. The audience consisted of students from Year Seven to Year 10 and pre-uni students, who interacted with the panellists.
The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a thanksgiving prayer led by Ustaz Haji Huzaimi bin Haji Tengah, followed by welcoming remarks by the event chairperson, Cikgu Zubaidah binti Tuah.
A video presentation on history dialogue research then ensued prior to the dialogue. A question-and-answer session took place after a summarisation of the dialogue by Haji Muhaimin bin Haji Mohamed. Certificates and souvenirs were then presented to participating students.
The dialogue is divided into three phases – The Japanese Occupation of Brunei 1942-1945 and ‘The Castille War’, which were covered yesterday. The third phase ‘Recognise Our History’ will be held on May 26.
The objective of the event is to teach the nation’s history to the youth in a creative and interactive manner, so that an interest in this field of study or research can be cultivated. The dialogue also promotes critical thinking and the development of self confidence by improving oratory skills.
