THE 3rd Student Entrepreneurship Development Expo (SEDEx) was officially launched yesterday in all four districts.
The Brunei-Muara District launch was officiated by the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.
The event was held at the Dewan Riadah of the Youth Centre in the capital.
The launching began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Awg Hj Sufri Hj Mega, Mosque Affairs Officer, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and followed by a welcoming note by the Director of Curriculum Development, Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji Nawi.
Organised by the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) Co-Curriculum Education Department, SEDEx showcases and promotes products such as arts, handicrafts and food products made by students from primary and secondary schools, sixth form centres, private schools as well as technical and vocational learning institutions.
The expo, which will run until tomorrow, is set with the objective of enhancing students’ spirits to be disciplined, creative and teamwork-oriented, as well as to foster their appreciation for the production of high quality goods.
It also serves to provide students with the opportunity to establish networks with fellow students from other schools so as to enable them to exchange ideas and share experiences.
The rationale behind SEDEx is to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their learning for the whole year through specific programmes directed towards entrepreneurial development, and as an encouragement for the students to be more innovative and creative in developing better products.
It is also an opportunity for schools to display their students’ progress, as well as to scout for creative ideas with commercial value.
The ministry hopes that SEDEx will give a positive impact on the students, and instil in them the interest to venture into the field of entrepreneurship. At the same time, it is hoped that students will gain appropriate entrepreneurial skills and attitudes such as public speaking, confidence and a sense of commitment towards their goals.
Also present yesterday were the Deputy Minister of Education, ambassadors, Legislative Council members, permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Education, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the Rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), deputy permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Education, the Brunei-Muara District Officer, the Acting Director General of Education as well as senior officers and personnel from the Ministry of Education.
