A DELEGATION from the State Judiciary Department, Prime Minister’s Office, comprising officers from the Syariah Court left for the United Arab Emirates for a working visit yesterday.
The delegation is led by Chief Syar’ie Judge, Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Awg Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim, accompanied by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awg Salim bin Haji Besar, Syariah High Court Judge. Other members of the delegation include judges and senior officials from the Syariah Court.
One of the objectives of the working visit is to raise awareness amongst the international community that Brunei Darussalam has implemented Syariah Penal Code this year.
Brunei was not the first country to implement and enforce the Syariah Law, hence the purpose of the working visit is to observe United Arab Emirates, one of the countries which has implemented the law.
The working visit is also hoped to strengthen the bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and United Arab Emirates, especially in the implementation of Syariah Law in the Sultanate.
