PROGRESIF Cellular Sdn Bhd (PCBS) yesterday held a seminar “Early Detection Saves Lives” in the hope to raise breast cancer awareness among its employees and corporate clients.
Organised with the support of Brunei Darussalam Nurses Association (PENJURU) and Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group (BBCSG), the event saw PCBS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paul Hyde as the guest of honour.
The day also saw Hyde presenting the BBCSG hotline to the group’s president, Datin Hajah Sahaidah binti Haji Awang Taib.
Guest speakers Dato Seri Laila Jasa Dr Babu Sukumaran, Hajah Jainah binti Haji Musa and Hajah Jaliha binti Haji Momin presented talks on various related topics, including the current cancer and breast cancer situation in Brunei, and the importance of providing psychological support to breast cancer sufferers.
The seminar also included a breast self-examination demonstration and methods of detecting and recognising lumps and abnormalities.
Progresif’s support for the cause is important, Hyde said, elaborating that “as a telecommunications company, we feel that providing a means of communication to the group to reach their wider audience is an important first step”.
Norazimah binti Haji Abu Bakar, joint chairperson of the seminar, said, “We hope the seminar provided participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent breast cancer.”
PENJURU President Datin Paduka Hajah Suraya Noraidah noted that creating awareness was crucial as it provides people with knowledge so that they can take necessary precautions.
