TO MARK International Infection and Prevention Week, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) yesterday hosted a forum entitled ‘Spread the Word, Not the Germs’ at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
In his opening remarks, JPMC Infection Control Committee Vice Chairman Dr Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Kassim noted, “The essential key to keeping you safe and infection-free is through proper hand hygiene and effective environment cleaning. Cleaning your hands is the simplest thing. It doesn’t take a lot of time or effort, however, it means a lot to your health.”
Meanwhile, JPMC Executive and Medical Director cum guest of honour Dato Dr Isham Jaafar said, “We are delighted to celebrate International Infection and Prevention Week with this forum. We believe events such as this educate our community on the importance of preventing infection before it occurs. The invaluable message is that society must continue to be taught so that the impact of infections can be minimised.”
The guest speakers delivered their talks at the forum. Dr Terrence Rohan Chinniah, Consultant Microbiologist from RIPAS Hospital’s Infection Control, discussed ‘Spread the Word, Not the Germs;’ Diana Nurulkamilah binti Yakup, Acting Infection Control and Senior Staff Nurse, Executive Suite, JPMC, spoke on ‘Implementation of Infection Control Programme at JPMC’ and Rozi bin Ismail, Acting Clinical Charge Nurse, Executive Suite of JPMC, covered ‘Environmental Screening – Prevention Control of Infection Indicators.’
The discussed topics focused primarily on the intentions behind the awareness event, implementation of infection control at JPMC, environmental screening and prevention control of infection indicators.
Through the forum, attendees acquired knowledge on methods to prevent the spread of infection, advantages of implementing an Infection Control Programme and essential ways on how to be cautious in their surroundings.
The day also saw the guest of honour presenting tokens of appreciation to the speakers and organisers.
The forum was held in collaboration with Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences and sponsored by Adsolution Works Enterprise Sdn Bhd.
