TEN Singapore Technical Education Institute (ITE) students yesterday got a true feel of a rural setting during an eye-opening visit to the Tutong District, before making their way to the Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering in Kuala Belait.
Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering Industry Relation Officer Hajah Salenawati binti Hj Md Saji led the students on the trip.
The visit commenced in the morning at the Tutong District Office, where the delegation was welcomed by Tutong District Officer Wardi bin Hj Mohammad Ali and senior officers from the district office.
Here, the students were briefed by Tutong District Office Administration Officer Khairul Shahrul bin Haji Duahim on the roles and functions of the Tutong District Office.
Following this, Special Duties Officer Siti Joriahati binti Johari enlightened the students on the district’s ‘One Village, One Product’ programme.
The students then toured the ‘Tutong District 1K1P Gallery’ of the Tutong District Office to observe the array of village products rolled out by the village consultative councils in the district.
Later in the day, the students stopped by Kg Kiudang, where they were welcomed by Kg Kiudang Village Head Hj Muhd Saiful bin Abdullah and members of the Kg Kiudang Consultative Council.
The visit focused on the 3MPK Herbal Tea Processing Centre, whose produce comes under the ‘One Village, One Product’ programme. This allowed the visiting students the opportunity to closely observe the sights and sounds of herbal tea production.
Next, the students paid a visit to the Puteri Maya Virgin Coconut Oil Gallery at Kampung Tanjong Maya, which was established by the Mukim Tanjong Maya Consultative Council.
Welcomed upon arrival by Shaari bin Haji Zunaidi, a producer of virgin coconut oil, the students were able to acquire knowledge on virgin coconut, its uses and benefits and how it is produced. They also witnessed how other products, such as Mascotek Herbal Tea, were produced.
This visiting programme has become an annual one since 2010, aimed at strengthening relations between Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering and Singapore Technical Education Institute.
