SPACE travel has a significant impact on the evolution of transportation, including the development of innovative electronic technologies.
The use of such innovations in implementing the new Land Transport Master Plan was recently discussed by the newly-established government body, the Transport for Brunei Authority, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the Minister of Communications said at the launch of the Luminox ‘Space and Time Converge’ Exhibition at The Mall, Gadong yesterday.
Transportation is essential to everyone and technologies must be developed to ensure a balance between life, the economy and the environment, he said.
The ministry always encourages ideas that can be used to make telecommunications and public transport beneficial to the community, he added.
The minister shared his interest in space travel, reminiscing about his time studying in the United Kingdom in the 60’s when a space race emerged between Russia and United States.
The minister, who was also the guest of honour joined Mrs Jennifer Tan, Executive Director of Crystal Time (S) Pte Ltd, the regional distributor of Luminox watches, and Chong Ain Hong of Chang Ein Hong Watch Dealer, in cutting a ribbon to launch the exhibition.
For the first time in Brunei, Luminox has brought in a giant model of the Lynx Mark II spacecraft, which measures six metres in length, five metres in height and with a wingspan of five metres, as the main attraction at the week-long exhibition.
The expo also marked the launch of the Luminox Space series of watches in Brunei, which is the third country to hold the launching of the timepieces. The exhibition runs until November 2.
