SULTAN Sharif Ali Secondary School (SMSSA) and Menglait Secondary School Gadong (SMMG) will once again meet each other in the finals of the History Quiz Competition, which will be held this Saturday, November 29, 2014.
SMSSA and SMMG qualified to the finals after collecting 53 and 29 points respectively at the semi-finals that took place at RTB Studio 4 in Sg Akar yesterday. The other two semi-finalists, Sayyidina Husain Secondary School and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, collected 23 and 12 points respectively.
The format of the competition yesterday was based on the highest score. In the preliminary round, 13 out of 27 government and private schools were eliminated with 14 best schools proceeding to the quarter-finals.
The champions of the competition themed ‘Sejarah Saksi Semalam Sarana Masa Depan’ will win a cash prize of $1,500, a trophy and a certificate. The first and second runners-up will win $1,000 and $750 respectively, along a trophy and certificate. A souvenir and certificate of participation will be given to all participating schools.
The quiz is aimed at enhancing the capability and determination of the participating schools in encouraging competitiveness among the students and raising awareness on the importance of learning history.
It is also aimed at instilling students’ interest in History subject and raising awareness of the younger generation on the importance of history and its relation to nation building and encouraging healthy competition among primary and secondary schools.
The quiz also serves as a medium to connect the History Centre with the community particularly the students.
The competition is the centre’s project in collaboration with Awang Semaun Secondary School, Media in Service Centre (MiSC), MoE and RTB.
