SULTAN Sharif Ali Secondary School (SMSSA) emerged as champion at the Lower Secondary Wordplay 2014, the national English language quiz. The school defeated Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) by 190 points to 120 at the grand final competition, which was held yesterday at Freshco’s Putera Function Hall in Jalan Tutong.
The winning team received $300 and certificate of participation each, while the runner-up team each received B$150 and certificate of participation.
The prizes were presented by Neil Mackenzie, Senior Managing Inspector of the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) Inspection UK.
The competition was divided into six categories, namely General Knowledge, True or False, Thesaurus, Word Links, Spellings and Vocabulary.
The competition tested students’ knowledge, speed of thought and nerve. It also put students’ cognitive skills to the test.
Neil Mackenzie in his speech expressed his gratitude to CfBT teachers for their continuous effort and hard work in successfully organising the event.
The Wordplay competition is an annual English language quiz for lower secondary students organised by CfBT and supported by the Ministry of Education.
