A GROUP of 24 Pre-U1 students from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali participated in the Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD) trip in Temburong.
General Paper (GP) tutors, Miss Erna bin Haji Sumardi and Matthew Johnson were in attendance.
The students were divided into two groups – Pateh Tuba and Damang Sari. Each group consisted of 12 students, one tutor and an OBBD instructor.
The instructor in group Pateh Tuba was Jamil while for the group Damang Sari was Zulkarnain. There was a short briefing on safety rules and regulations from each instructor before the self-introduction session. In the self introduction session, students were asked to share about their allergies and fear.
Later there was a short training session for students and tutors on how to swim with their life jacket on.
After the training session, the instructor taught students how to set up a kayaking boat and a few basic skills of kayaking.
By 10.30 am, students and tutors began their kayaking which ended by 12.30pm. Students then had their lunch after which they were given a rest until 1.00pm. The second activity, flying fox, started at 1.15pm. This activity began with two small team building games. The students were instructed to arrange themselves according to their weights. The flying fox started off with the heaviest one and ended with lightest one.
The OBBD trip was a good experience for students where they could broaden their knowledge, enjoy the beautiful scenery of brunei’s rainforest and make a breakthrough by challenging themselves in doing extreme activities.
Miss Erna, one of the tutors, hoped that her students could learn a lot of things from this trip and was looking forward to organise similar activities in the future.
