PENGIRAN Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School (SMPAPHRSB), Lumut, yesterday received a total of 157 Year 7 students.
The welcoming event was also attended by the students’ parents and guardians.
The first of the three-day orientation programme started off with the registration of the new students, which was held at the school’s Multipurpose Hall.
The event then continued with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Ustaz Nor Esuandi bin Haji Abas, followed by a welcoming speech and briefing of the school’s administration by Cikgu Haji Isyrah Sadri bin Haji Osman, Senior Master (Academic).
Cikgu Haji Isyrah Sadri welcomed the new students to the school and hoped that they will work hard and strive towards their goals.
He pointed out that secondary schools provide a variety of subjects which allow students to discover (discovery learning), such as in doing projects, group discussion and debates.
Discovery learning enables students to be independent in doing their research, helping them to produce results based on their findings, such as by browsing the Internet at the school’s ICT Lab.
Cikgu Haji Isyrah Sadri hoped that parents and guardians will always support their child’s education, because parents’ involvement is vital to the students’ academic achievement. With endless support and constant monitoring, children can be more focused and positive in every aspect of their education, he said.
The event continued with the students’ oath taking, which was led by Muhd Khairul Sofiy bin Mohd Idris from the Students Council.
The event continued with orientation programmes for the students, which included ice-breaking sessions and a tour of the school.
