CONTINUOUS downpour from Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning has led to landslide affecting a double-storey house in Kg Sungai Akar and forced the family of three to have sleepless night.
It was a deja-vu for the house owner, Pg Maizan binti Pg Haji Hussain, who faced a similar mishap two years ago, with the old canvas covering the slope still intact.
The earth slip yesterday water-clogged the drains, which then led to a knee-deep floodwaters around her house.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) and Municipal authorities were at the scene with two fire engines.
The fire and rescue personnel put up a canvas to prevent further soil erosion while the municipal authorities said they took note of the house owner’s complaint and will follow up on the owner’s previous grievances.
Pg Maizan alleged that the soil erosion is caused by the earthwork for a private residential project up the hill near her house, and voiced her concerns that if a second wave of heavy downpour occurs, it might hit her house wall and windows.
Complaints have also been lodged with the ABCI authorities. A similar mishap which occurred two years ago caused cracks and damage but no action has been taken since then, Pg Maizan said.
Floodwaters also rose in other parts of the country such as at Soon Lee departmental store in the Belait District.
Meanwhile, Muslim worshippers congregated mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide to perform Sunnat Hajat Prayers and Doa after the Maghrib prayers to seek blessing from Allah the Almighty for the nation and the rest in the region to be protected from calamities.
