SINGAPORE (AFP) – Singapore Telecom (SingTel) said Thursday second quarter net profit rose 19.3 per cent year on year, boosted by strong performances in the home and regional markets as mobile Internet usage increases.
Net profit totalled Sg$1.04 billion ($830 million) in the three months to September 30, compared with Sg$870 million in the same period last year, Southeast Asia’s biggest telecom firm by revenue said in a statement.
Second quarter group revenue rose 3.5 per cent to SG$4.31 billion from Sg$4.16 billion last year.
The robust overall earnings were driven by “performance improvements across all of our businesses”, said Chua Sock Koong, SingTel’s chief executive.
Pre-tax earnings from regional mobile associates grew 26.2 per cent year-on-year to Sg$629 million.
