A DELEGATION from the Singapore Foreign Service, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore, accompanied by the Singapore Deputy High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Desmond Koh Chee Hing, visited the Brunei Press Sdn Bhd’s main building in Beribi yesterday.
On hand to welcome the delegation was Reggie See, the General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd and his deputy, Hazizah Osman.
The delegates were first shown a film documenting Borneo Bulletin’s 60-year history as well as the historical events in the country followed by a brief introduction on the publisher’s background, recent milestones and profile.
The Singaporean officials then went for a tour at the Editorial Department where they were shown copies of old newspapers from the archives including the first copy of Borneo Bulletin.
Before the visit concluded, the delegates took a group photo with Reggie See against the backdrop of Borneo Bulletin front pages over the decades.
According to Shivakumar Nair, the Deputy Director Southeast Asia Directorate, who was leading the delegation, the visit was part of their training programmes for Foreign Service officers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ annual Foreign Service Basic Programme (FSBP). One of the key objectives of the FSBP is to expose the young officers to key partners in the region.
The delegation will be in Brunei till September 11 and will meet with Bruneian counterparts and visit prominent government ministries and agencies.
