MORE than 20 police personnel from the Sungai Liang Police Station recently carried out an operation with the collaboration of 12 members of the Kg Sungai Liang Neighbourhood Watch programme.
The operation, comprising a roadblock set up along the dual carriageway near the station as well as a patrol around the neighbourhood, was led by Chief Inspector Burhan Abang, the Officer-in-Charge of Sg Liang Station. Leading the Neighbourhood Watch members was Hj Bujang bin Hj Matnor, the Chairperson of the Kg Sungai Liang Neighbourhood Watch.
Chief Inspector Burhan Abang said that the success of the Neighbourhood Watch programme depends on the cooperation of people in the village, the private sector, the government and the community.
Hj Bujang bin Hj Matnor said that programmes to create awareness about the Neighbourhood Watch are currently being planned. “It’s a mutual responsibility among residents of a village to take care of each other’s safety and well-being and to promote a sense of harmony and peace,” he said.
Hj Mohd Ibrahim bin Dato Maharaja Setia Dian, the Deputy Chairperson of the Kg Sungai Liang Village Consultative Council, said that the event is a continuation of the efforts since the establishment of the Neighbourhood Watch programme back in 2004. He further said that various activities have already been carried out to reinstate the Neighbourhood Watch programme.
