BELGRADE (dpa) – Serbia coach Dick Advocaat says he will consider resigning after a 3-1 home defeat to Denmark and a “catastrophic start” to the Euro 2016 qualification campaign.
“This is the first horrible match since I’ve been the coach,” the Dutchman told reporters. “If anybody is to be blamed, then it is I. Yes, I will consider resigning and my future status.”
“I took the job because I thought we have a team that can qualify. Now, a few months later, the pressure is huge. It is fair and correct that I should sit down with the (Serbian football) organisation leadership.”
Serbia played the first of two home matches without spectators in punishment for the politically charged game against Albania on October 14, which was abandoned following a political provocation, a player scuffle and a pitch invasion by fans.
“It all began with Albania … This is a catastrophic start to (the Euro) qualifications,” Advocaat said.
