THE Belait District Office yesterday held a meeting to address issues pertinent to the implementation of the new pension distribution system in Mukim Seria.
This resulted in the announcement of a scheduled meeting and rehearsal to be held at the District Office Hall in Seria on December 18, during which pensioners and Mukim Consultative Council members will be familiarsed with the revised system. Belait District Officer Hj Haris bin Othman will chair the meet.
Hj Haris bin Hj Othman led yesterday’s meeting with Mukim Seria Consultative Council members, representatives of Community Development Department (JAPEM) and members of the media who were invited to provide information gathered from the public.
The Belait District Officer noted that the presence of all parties at the meet was crucial towards preparing a report and subsequently finding a solution to better the pension distribution system for Mukim Seria.
Mukim Seria Penghulu Hj Jamail bin Hj Linap voiced several of the issues regarding the new system which was implemented in September to cater to the 1,243 pensioners from Mukim Seria, a majority of whom are over 60 years old.
“I will do my best to ensure the pensioners receive their payments and are pleased with the services provided. At least we are transparent,” he added.
Kg Mumong Village Head YB Hj Mohd Yusof bin Hj Dulamin said of the new system, “Even though one Mukim Seria is the focal point of the issue, but as village heads, we also feel the burden as we are of a common organisation.”
“We look at this as a test and we will work together to find a solution to the issue,” he added.
Noridah binti Hj Ishak, the Head of JAPEM for the Belait District, took the opportunity to remind the village heads to remain on their toes in monitoring the welfare of the pensioners and to ensure there is no room for any form of foul play.
